After consultation with Dr Melsom, it may be decided that you require surgery. At this stage, Dr Melsom will explain the procedure and risks and benefits to you, what is involved during and following your procedure. You will also have to sign a consent form agreeing to surgery and signifying you understand the procedure.
Make sure to advise Dr Melsom of any medication allergies you have or if you are taking blood thinning medications. |
Step 1: Save the Date!
After your appointment with Dr Melsom, you can book a date for surgery with the rooms. We will then provide you with a surgery information pack which includes everything you need to know about your admission and an estimate of fees. Please read this! |
Step 2: Pay your Surgery Deposit
In order to confirm your surgery booking, you need to pay your surgery deposit at least three (3) business days prior to the date of your operation. If you do not pay your deposit, your surgery will be postponed until the deposit has been paid.
For privately insured patients, the surgery deposit is the ‘out of pocket’ amount displayed on your estimate of fees. For self-funded patients attending Ipswich General Hospital, the surgery deposit is the total surgeon’s fee. Dr Melsom’s secretary will provide you with an estimate of fees for Dr Melsom. However, there will also be costs relating to the anaesthetist, the assistant, and your hospital stay. For more information, please refer to the Billing Information tab. |
Step 3: Have your Surgery
Arrive at the hospital on the day of your procedure at the time given to you by Dr Melsom’s secretary. Make sure to take your completed admission paperwork with you (included in your surgery information pack).
Please bring ALL your x-rays and scans with you to hospital as Dr Melsom will need these during your procedure. |
Step 4: Recovery and Rehabilitation
After your procedure, Dr Melsom will give you a therapy referral form. You will need to make this appointment following surgery. A list of recommended therapists is included on this referral. Alternatively, refer to the Therapy tab.
Therapists are crucial to your success from surgery. Dr Melsom works very closely with both hand therapists and physiotherapists to ensure that you have the very best outcome from surgery. Our rooms will contact you after your operation to make a follow-up appointment to see Dr Melsom 2-3 weeks after your procedure.
