Elbow Arthroscopy

Keyhole assessment and treatment for selected elbow problems, including loose bodies, stiffness and impingement.

Keyhole surgery of the elbow

Elbow arthroscopy uses a small camera and instruments through small incisions to inspect and treat problems within the joint. It may be considered for loose fragments, selected stiffness or impingement, and some cartilage or arthritic problems when non-surgical treatment has not helped.

Is arthroscopy appropriate?

Dr Melsom assesses your symptoms, examination and imaging before recommending an approach. Not every elbow condition can be treated with keyhole surgery. Previous injury, scarring and the position of nearby nerves can influence whether arthroscopic or open surgery is appropriate.

Recovery and risks

Recovery depends on what is treated. A rehabilitation plan guides movement and the return to work or sport. Small incisions do not mean the joint is immediately ready for heavy use.

Risks include infection, nerve or blood vessel injury, stiffness and persistent symptoms. Nerves lie close to the elbow joint, making careful planning and surgical technique particularly important.
